A three-day program, held from 18th -20th August 2025 in Dhaka, marked an important step in the Joint Research Project titled “Dynamic Traffic Signal Control Systems for Intersections in Dhaka.” The initiative is a collaboration between Nippon Koei Co., Ltd. (NK), Nippon Koei R&D Center (NK R&D Center), Nippon Koei Bangladesh Ltd. (NKB), and North South University (NSU).
The program featured the visit of Mr. Hisanari Ushirooka, Chief Specialist, Transportation Planning & Management Dept., Nippon Koei Co., Ltd., and Dr. Tirtom Huseyin, Specialist, Nippon Koei R&D Center. The program was coordinated by Prof. Dr. Javed Bari (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, NSU) and Prof. Dr. Lamia Iftekhar (Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, NSU).
Day-1
- Meeting with Capt. Fahim Ahmed Khan (Retd.), Assistant General Manager (Admin & Security), Bashundhara Group in the morning.
- Courtesy meeting with Prof. Dr. Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of NSU, who extended a warm welcome and expressed appreciation for the collaboration. The discussion was joined by Prof. Dr. Abdur Rob Khan (Treasurer & Pro-Vice Chancellor) and Prof. Dr. Shazzad Hosain (Dean, School of Engineering and Physical Sciences, NSU).
- Site visit to three major intersections along Sayem Sobhan Anvir Road in Bashundhara R/A, followed by visits to NSU’s campus and laboratories. The day concluded with a dinner hosted by NSU.
Day-2
- Site visits to Gulshan 2 and Gulshan 1 intersections in the morning.
- Afternoon visits to key intersections, including Karwan Bazar, Farmgate, Bijoy Sarani, Prime Minister's Office, and Jahangir Gate.
Day-3
- Meeting with Mr. Nayeem Rayhan Khan, Executive Engineer, Traffic Engineering Circle, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).
- Wrap-up meeting held at NKB office.
The program was attended by key representatives from NKB, including Mr. Shinji Tanaka (Director).
