Nippon Koei Bangladesh Ltd. (NKB) recently paid a courtesy visit to North South University (NSU) on Wednesday, 24 December 2025, marking another important milestone in their growing collaboration. The in-person meeting brought together representatives from both institutions to review ongoing joint research initiatives, discuss ways to expedite project implementation and fund disbursement, and explore new avenues for collaboration. Key areas of discussion included internship opportunities for NSU students and potential MSc programs for NKB professionals.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Javed Bari, Professor, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (DCEE), who warmly welcomed the NKB delegation and expressed his appreciation for the continued partnership. The session was also attended by Dr. Shazzad Hosain, Professor and Dean, School of Engineering & Physical Sciences (SEPS), and Dr. Minhaz Mohammad Shahriar, Associate Professor, DCEE, reflecting strong academic engagement from NSU. During the meeting, Dr. Bari presented progress updates on three ongoing joint research projects involving Nippon Koei Co., Ltd., Nippon Koei R&D Center, Nippon Koei Bangladesh Ltd., and North South University:
Dynamic Traffic Signal Control Systems for Intersections in Dhaka (DTSC)
Design Parameter Mapping of the Roadway Network of Bangladesh – Towards Sustainability
Study on the Effectiveness of Biological Soil Crusts for Sustainable Soil Stabilization in Bangladesh (BSC)
The meeting was attended by key representatives from NKB, including Akira Kawai, Managing Director; Md. Omar Yusuf, Deputy General Manager; and Ishmam Md. Arif Aktab, Junior Civil Engineer. The session concluded on a positive note with a vote of thanks, followed by a cordial lunch hosted by NSU.
The visit highlighted the strong synergy between academia and industry and reaffirmed the shared commitment of NKB and NSU to further strengthen their collaboration in research, capacity building, and professional development in accordance with respective institutional policies and confidentiality requirements.
